Gambling addiction
Like all addictions, Gambling or risk taking involves escaping from reality. It is not just the actual risk, but the whole panoply of events leading up to taking the risk and the fantasy which surrounds it. The process of addiction and the inherent Denial processes prevent the sufferer from seeing the reality of what is happening. The belief that the next risk will be the one which will put everything right, the delusory sense of certainty about the outcome combine to convince the person that just one more risk is essential.
The consequences of compulsive gambling can be catastrophic. Not only are enormous debts accrued, but these may well have been increased through the use of loan sharks and other unsavouryunsavory sources which can place the life of the person and their family or friends in jeopardy.

As with all addictions, the sufferer seeks escape from the mounting anxiety and depression which accompanies high levels of guilt, shame and remorse, by taking yet more risks. Common sense does not apply in addictions, the person is powerless to find a solution on their own and their lives descend into more and more chaos.
The biggest step in treatment is realizing you have a problem with gambling. It takes tremendous strength and courage to own up to this, especially if you have lost a lot of money and strained or broken relationships along the way. Don’t despair, and don’t try to go it alone. Many others have been in your shoes and have been able to break the habit. Overcoming a gambling addiction or problem is never easy. But recovery is possible if you stick with treatment and seek support.
Treatment
At Dr Vorobiev’s clinic help is available and treatment is highly effective, returning people the freedom to function normally in every day life.
Treament begins first with a consultation during which we attempt to ascertain the patient’s motives for seeking help, the stage of dependency the patient is at and to what extent he/she is aware of the seriousness of the problem. After the initial consultation is complete the doctors then begin to formulate an individual treatment program based on the patient’s personal profile.
Patients pass no less than 12 months under observation in our clinic, at which time they take their daily dose of medicine and see to the reorganization of their life. Naturally, patients set on achieving sobriety are by this time already adapting well to life without alcohol, of which they are invariably proud.
