Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is first and only non-systematic and non-invasive treatment cleared for patients who have problems with depression and other disorders.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), involves the use of very short pulses of magnetic energy to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, targeting mood and easing symptoms of depression and other disorders.

The unique nature of rTMS allows brief magnetic pulses similar in intensity to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to pass through the skull and into the cortex without distortion causing only focal stimulation, thus minimizing stimulation of brain tissue not involved in mood. Patients recline in a chair and remain fully awake during the 30 to 45 minute procedure. Patients may feel a prickly sensation on their scalp during treatment. Based on research data, there is no disruption of thought processes and no cognitive impairment. Patients can resume normal activity immediately.
